Hi there, I am building a mobile signal detector which will use spread spectrum to
pick up signals. It will detect GSM and 3G signals. I could really use a starting point
here and any guidance in this would be highly appreciated. Many Thanks, Sin_Eater

If all you want to do is detect the presence of the signals, you could build a wideband
detector circuit for the bands of interest, then do a little amplification into a threshold
detector (comparator opamp circuit. The entire circuit could probably be built from
scrap box parts. The antenna(s) could be simple 1/4-wave monopole.

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling
2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed
formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit
design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at
the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps
while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got
Mail" when a new message arrived...
