Hi All

Back in January we were all throwing our hats in the air to greet Cycle 24 as the first rotationally repeated Flux peak was registered. As the old song goes: "The Sun has got his hat on, hip-hip-hurray, the Sun has got his hat on and he's coming out to play".

Since this date, the wretched Cycle 24 flux graph has flat-lined. Is the patient dead?

Or is this just a Near Death Experience, and the heart beat will shortly re-start?

Maybe that's why we're having the snowiest winter on record in the northern latitudes?

Well, Rip van Winkle Sun is still fast asleep.

OK, having stated the obvious, here's something much less obvious.

The only burst of solar 2800MHz flux this year seems to have occurred around March 22nd. Check it out on

Waiting patiently for 27 days I expected to see the repeat: result zip, diddly, nada.

54 days later, oualou, rien, nichts, semmi.

Recently on sciencedaily.com I read about the most hugemongous explosion ever recorded: a gamma ray burst on 19th March directed from billions of lightyears away exactly in line with the earth, and therefore, get this, with the sun. It lasted a few seconds and wizzed on at the speed of light. Three days later, the sun yawned, spewed out an extra 20 Solar Flux Units at 2800MHz and went back to sleep.

Question: was this a "soliton" wave reaction by the sun to the enormous gamma-ray energy that hit it like a HiVel bullet? have there been others?

Am I the only person to bother about such things?
