Green Bank Radio Telescope Operates in the KKK-Band? - RF Cafe Forums

RF Cafe Forums closed its virtual doors in late 2012 mainly due to other social media platforms dominating public commenting venues. RF Cafe Forums began sometime around August of 2003 and was quite well-attended for many years. By 2012, Facebook and Twitter were overwhelmingly dominating online personal interaction, and RF Cafe Forums activity dropped off precipitously. Regardless, there are still lots of great posts in the archive that ware worth looking at. Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts. Greetings:

An RF Cafe visitor recently sent me a photo of the 100-meter radio astronomy telescope at Green Bank, West Virginia. The first thing I noticed in the pic was the dedication plaque to former Senator Robert C. Byrd (D-WV); in fact, it is called the "Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope."

What I want to know is does the Robert C. Byrd telescope operate in the KKK-Band? :smt043 They don't use an e-mail address, or I would write to ask.

KKK-band! That's a riot! =D> :thumleft:

I was always wondering why Byrd was called the Conscience of the Senate when everyone knew of his background as a KKK kleagle. Bill Clinton even excused it at the old coot's funeral by saying it was necessary to get elected in West Virginia. Then again, Bill figured womanizing was necessary to get elected in Arkansas! :smt025
