output power loss due to VSWR - RF Cafe Forums

RF Cafe Forums closed its virtual doors in late 2012 mainly due to other social media platforms dominating public commenting venues. RF Cafe Forums began sometime around August of 2003 and was quite well-attended for many years. By 2012, Facebook and Twitter were overwhelmingly dominating online personal interaction, and RF Cafe Forums activity dropped off precipitously. Regardless, there are still lots of great posts in the archive that ware worth looking at. Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts. Post subject: output power loss due to VSWR Posted: Sun Jan 08, 2006 10:45 am

hello,

In my Tx chain i have at the end a PA (power amplifier) with output VSWR of 2:1

then I have a losses due to RF cables of 1dB, and at the end of the chain there is antenna with VSWR of also 2:1

my question is if the output power of the amplifier is 50dBm, what will be the output power from the antenna.(assume the gain of the antenna is 1dB) caused by the impedance mismatch.

thanks,

amir

Quick answer:

It depends on the exact impedances and length of the transmission line.

The details matter.

Good Luck
