Job Description: The Radar Space Segment SEIT systems engineer
will be responsible for supporting architecture trades and developing/defining
technical requirements. In addition, this individual will work with
payload and platform systems engineering to flowdown, decompose and
allocate requirements leading to System Requirements Review in 2007
and System Design Review in 2008. System engineering accountabilities
include definition, allocation, validation, and verification of satellite
requirements, definition and control of payload interface requirements,
assessing and managing technical risk, identification and resolution
of technical issues and anomalies including systemic process and quality
issues, and incorporation of lean methodologies. Additional responsibilities
include specification and test procedure review, test data buy-off,
system sell-off, mission assurance reviews, and interfacing with a variety
of Satellite Development Center organizations. Must be able to work
in a fast paced environment and have a self starter mentality. Candidate
should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and
be able to interface with a variety of internal and external organizations.
Experience in systems engineering, spacecraft design, assembly, integration
and mechanical/electrical systems is desired. Project management skills
in leading teams and making strategic technical decisions would be helpful.
Competencies: 1.) Technical Skills and Knowledge: Candidate must
be an experienced satellite systems engineer with experience with platform
requirements derivation/decomposition, specification development and
requirements verification and traceability. Experience/expertise in
requirements compliance and AI&T, radar systems, and/or bus subsystems
is desired. Experience in systems engineering, assembly, integration,
and test/verification desirable. Spacecraft design knowledge in one
or more subsystems as well as experience in spacecraft validation and
performance verification matrix development is also desirable. 2.) People
Working Together: Should possess good communication and presentation
skills with the ability to present technical status and metrics to program
management and to interface with a variety of internal and external
organizations and customers. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment.

in decisions that affect them. 3.) Problem Solving/Judgment: Candidate

plans as well as assist in test anomaly resolution. Gathers, examines,

solutions to problems and make sound business decisions; generates alternate
approaches to solving problems when needed; demonstrates awareness of
the likely consequences or implications of judgments. Generates and
implements new and useful ideas; ideas reflect 'thinking outside the
box'; explores alternatives; takes risks and tries new approaches. 4.)
Requirements Management: Resolve conflicts between customer expectations,
balance cost, implications, and risks for a requirement, define a valid
requirement and relate it to the architecture, and manage and trace
requirements, flow-down, and linkage (e.g., requirement relationships,
derived requirements, product data management). Generate requirements
from multiple information sources such as policy/strategy, mission,
regulations, build and support direction, threat environment, etc..
5.) Leadership: Leads tasks and people effectively; guides and coaches
others to improve skills and achieve challenging goals; inspires and
motivates others; solicits and considers others' opinions. Takes independent
action; seeks out additional assignments or tasks; makes recommendations
to improve systems or procedures; demonstrates a strong work ethic and
sense of urgency for completing work assignments; meets commitments;
seeks out and accomplishes professional development opportunities. 6.)
Project Management: The ability to achieve desired outcomes on projects,
on-time and within budget. Ability to define the project, design and
plan the project, and manage the project team. Ability to control and
deliver project deliverables, project accounting and appraisal, and
optimize the contribution of the people involved. Typically persons
in this position would possess 18 years of applicable experience.
Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree in an engineering or
related technical discipline required; Master's degree or higher preferred.
