In the EMC & Wireless Connectivity lab, you will contribute to the Internet-Of-Things strategy
Philips Lighting, e.g. by co-creating the next generation of the Philips HUE lamps.
You will support multiple departments of Philips Lighting to efficiently test and design the wireless
connectivity part of their products and systems.
Location: Eindhoven, Netherlands
Job type: Full-time, in-house role

Education: Bachelor, minimum
Facilitate antenna and RF module integration into products
Measure the performance/robustness of wireless links of a product or in a system, e.g. for ZigBee,
Bluetooth LE, Wi-Fi, GPS, GPRS and future low power, low data rate links. This takes multipath, propagation
properties of different application environments, and concurrent RF sources into account. Provide expert
knowledge in this area to product design teams and apply problem solving (technical consultancy).
Design antennas that are suited for special application requirements, using 3D electromagnetic simulation
and/or an prototype based, iterative approach
Create efficient RF test strategies; design, verify and standardize test set-ups
Provide expert knowledge and apply problem solving on compliance according to the Radio Equipment
Directive (RED/R&TTE, e.g. EN300328)
Implement new and maintain existing RF and EMC compliance tests in our ISO17025 accredited test
lab, taking into account all quality and efficiency requirements
Solve problems and derive design guidelines in the area of intra-product or intrasystem EMI, thus
where internal EMI sources disturb the RF link
Pro-actively align with businesses and co-create RF strategy
Within Philips Innovation labs, we are committed to help Philips Lighting and external customers
to test and improve their products and systems.

(EMC), Wireless Connectivity and Electrical Safety. Next to contributing to development projects, we
run a large and accredited test lab.
We have a strategic focus on consultancy for robust, small and cost-effective wireless connections
through our unique set of RF engineering expertise that includes antenna design, radio integration,
interaction modeling, and robustness testing.
We welcome you to a challenging, innovative environment with great opportunities for you to explore.

in both: wireless performance/robustness and compliance testing;
Good knowledge on (the physical layer of) ZigBee, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, Mobile technologies such
as GPRS/UMTS/LTE, including the latest developments and upcoming standards (Thread, LoRa…)
Knowledge on the propagation of EM waves and how different environments influence those
Develop test strategies / methods for RF testing. Able to create RF test set-ups and to assess and
improve their quality (e.g. Gage R&R, measurement precision); as well for performance as well for
Experience in antenna design, prototyping and integration (simulation skills are a plus)
Knowledge on EMC and EMC testing are a plus
Co-existence of multiple-transceiver systems (for e.g. BLE & ZigBee) and interference mechanisms

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling
2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas
and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer.
The Internet was still largely an unknown entity at the time and not much was available
in the form of WYSIWYG
