A manually cranked handle powers the gears, cogs, cams, and wheels.

A high-energy, 1.315 micron wavelength laser designed and built by Northrop Grumman, is installed in a Boeing 747-400F. The test phase will culminate in an airborne intercept test against a ballistic missile in 2009.

Is shows why replacement blades are sometimes needed. Here is the story behind it. Supposedly a brake failure caused the event. Anyone care to translate from the website?
