Ethernet, Meet Gasnet

A revolutionary solution to the "Last Mile" problem in ultra high speed data lines to homes and businesses is in the final stages of planning for municipal gas users. A company called Sempra has developed a gas line fitting that allows a fiber optic cable to be routed through the gas service pipe and out to a distribution panel. The money saved from not needing to tear up roads, sidewalks and lawns is enormous, and the gas company stands to gain from renting out otherwise empty space inside their pipes.
