  Tyco Electronics Introduces New Ultra Low Noise Amplifier Family with Less than 1 dB Noise Figure
Low-Cost, RoHS Compliant Amplifiers Ideally Suited for Low Noise Applications, Including GPS, WiMAX, DAB and MoCA Specifications LOWELL, Mass. – Feb. 26, 2008 – Tyco Electronics today introduced a new family of ultra low noise amplifiers (LNA) with less than 1 dB noise figure (NF) across the designed frequency range that are appropriate for a variety of applications including Global Positioning Systems (GPS), WiMAX, Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) and Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) specifications. The first products developed on the company’s newest low noise LH3 0.5um pHEMT process, the family is designed to achieve less than 1dB NF and are tunable over a wide frequency range. Each LNA has minimum off-chip matching components, which allow for tuning optimal noise figure and gain over a wide frequency range. The M/A-COM MAAL-007304 and MAAL-007306 are high gain amplifiers in a RoHS-compliant SOT-26 surface mount plastic package. They employ a monolithic two-stage self-biased design and typically operate from a single 3.0 volt supply. The MAAL-007304 is designed to achieve low noise (0.7 dB), low current (11.5 mA), and high gain (25.5 dB) up to 3.0 GHz, while the MAAL-007306 has a higher operating current and OIP3 in order to support higher linearity requirements for the infrastructure market up to 2.0 GHz. The MAAL-008550 low noise amplifier is packaged in a RoHS SC-70 compliant surface mount plastic package, employing a single-stage self-biased design and typically runs from a single 3.0 volt supply. It is designed to have a low noise figure of 0.75 dB while only consuming 7.5 mA of current and 12.5 dB of gain at 2.3 GHz when operating at 3.0 V.
