Draper Laboratory is an independent, not-for-profit engineering research and development organization. Its mission is to serve the national interest in applied research, engineering development, education and technology transfer. The core competencies leveraged in Draper's work are guidance, navigation and control for strategic systems; precision targeting and information management and decision systems; autonomous air, land, sea and space systems; reliable, fault-tolerant embedded software; and miniature, low-power electronic and mechanical systems. We are located in Cambridge, MA.
Draper provides a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, which includes medical, dental, tuition reimbursement, pension, and subsidized commuter pass and garage parking, designed to meet the needs of our employees. Some benefits are offered on a pretax basis, such as medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; the contributions are subtracted from your pay before any taxes are calculated.
Relocation assistance is available.
Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
The candidate will lead in the analysis, design, simulation, fabrication, integration and field test of advanced RF / microwave circuits and systems for communications, navigation and sensor applications. Responsibilities include providing system engineering and technical direction to multiple ongoing projects; system concept development for translating raw ideas into program opportunities; conceptualization and conduct of innovative R&D to grow company-wide technical capabilities; technical mentoring / oversight of RF circuit design engineers; and presentation of proposed technology advances to management and external customers. The candidate will serve equally as a key technical team contributor and as a leader providing direction to teams of high-caliber engineers. The ability to bring energy, create focus, build enthusiasm and engender cooperation on multi-disciplinary, technically challenging developments is essential. At varying times the candidate will need to be technical leader, poised presenter, and confident marketer.
Education & Experience Required:
MSEE / Ph.D. or equivalent degree(s) and ten years experience in both direct "hands-on" lab work in advanced technologies and effective leadership in both formal and informal roles. Technical expertise is vital in areas of: RF / microwave circuit design (200 MHz to 6 GHz); modulation and coding; communications theory; system performance analysis; modern analog, RF / Microwave and communication system design CAD tools (e.g. Agilent ADS, HFSS, Spice, MATLAB / SIMULINK); and adaptive signal processing. Demonstrated skills in innovation and collaboration are a must, and the capacity to influence & inspire others is essential.
The candidate will design, simulate, layout and test RF circuits in the 200 MHz to 6 GHz range employing microstrip & lumped passive elements, device & transistor level active elements, RFICs and conformal antennas. Subsystem design areas will encompass oscillators, mixers, frequency synthesizers, efficient RF power amplifiers and low noise receivers for use in low power, highly miniaturized communications and sensor electronics. The candidate will also conceptualize and conduct innovative R&D in RF technology in support of company-wide complex systems development projects requiring unique wireless communications systems and signal processing. The candidate must be able to work effectively with minimum supervision, be comfortable working with a team of high-caliber engineers, and demonstrate the future potential for technically leading such teams.
Education & Experience Required:
The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a BSEE and 5 years experience designing complex RF circuitry. Additional experience and training desirable. Must be able to architect high performance transmitters and receivers, develop subsystem requirements, and design and integrate individual subsystems. Expertise in use of RF / Microwave design tools (e.g. Agilent ADS, HFSS, Spice, MATLAB / SIMULINK) and RF laboratory test equipment is required. Detailed knowledge of commercially available circuit board level RF components including amplifiers, mixers, modulators, oscillators, filters, detectors, PLLs and more functionally integrated RFICs is essential. Familiarity with spread spectrum systems, communications theory and GPS is highly desirable, and the capacity & drive to get things done is mandatory. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
