Test Engineer - High Speed IC Test

Carlsbad, California (North San Diego Beach City – Tech Area “Silicon Beach”)

Job Description:

The test engineer will be responsible for developing test methods, test software, test hardware for the company’s high speed datacom products. The test engineer will work with engineers from different groups (electronics, photonics, and system engineers) to define the test requirements, to investigate measurement methods, to select test equipment, to write the test software, etc. This is a test development position, where the emphasis is on the design of the test system, hardware and software. As such, prior experience in developing test system for manufacturing environment is highly valuable.

Test engineer responsibilities:

  • Define test plan. This involves thorough investigation of the test parameters, and the test methods and test equipment as recommended by the relevant standards body. The test plan will clearly identify the test parameters, test equipment, references, test setup, and measurement uncertainty analysis.

  • Write test software. The engineer will write the test software to implement the test plan. The test software will need to be modular and fits into the test executive/sequencer.

  • Design relevant hardware circuits. The engineer will design hardware needed for test, such as signal conditioning to improve measurement accuracy, signal routing/multiplexing, power supply circuitry, data acquisition, timing control, etc.

  • Collaborate with system integration engineer, system test engineer, design verification engineer to correlate measurements from different test systems.

  • Work with product engineers to improve product yield, improve test throughput (reduce test time), define data format for database and test report.

  • Work with production team to deploy, and to support the test system in production. This involves writing operation procedure, calibration procedure, training operators, working with production personnel to resolve test related issues.

Job requirement:

  • Minimum a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering from accredited university.

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in test development.

  • Knowledge of test and measurement for RF&uWave: s-parameters, smith chart, frequency domain, time domain analysis, linear systems theory, circuit theory, sampling scope, BERT, network analyzer, TDR, etc.

  • Some experience with high speed data communication (minimum 1Gbps) is desired.

  • Must have written software in C/C++ or National Instrument TestStand or National Instrument LabWindows/CVI. 6. Experience with photonics or fiber optic is highly desirable.

Product Engineer

Carlsbad, California (North San Diego Beach City – Tech Area “Silicon Beach”)

General Description:

The person will be responsible for taking Luxtera products through the New Product Introduction process and identifying root cause of all yield limiting factors to ensure there are structured corrective action programs. They will take ownership of the assurance that manufacturing processes deliver a quality product that meets customer expectations and specifications.
Responsibilities will include:

- generating schematics for characterization test setups

- generating schematics for characterization test boards

- measuring devices for characterization

- organizing characterization data

- analyzing characterization data

- writing characterization reports

- working w/ a team to determine datasheet mins/maxes

- identifying which tests need to be performed in production or can be guaranteed by design

- work w/ Test Engineers to determine test limit mins/maxes

- generate schematics for reliability test boards (eg: HTOL, HAST)

- work w/ Reliability Engineers to qualify devices

- release devices to Production

- monitor Production yields

- address and coordinate corrective action on yield issues

- address and coordinate corrective action on customer issues

Work experience requirements:

The following skills are desired:

  • Experience with HDMI/DVI

  • Experience with the following test equipment a plus:

    • Quantum Data 802BT Video Test Generator

    • Astro VA-1809 Sync Emulator

    • Panasonic UITA-1000 Protocol/Audio/ Video Analyzer

    • Bit Error Rate Testers (BERTs)

    • Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs)

    • Spectrum Analyzers

  • Strong statistical analysis skills

  • Semiconductor data analysis tools such as Syntricity DataConductor or PDF Solutions DataPower

  • Schematic generation software such as OrCAD Capture

Education Requirements

  • BS degree, EE plus 5 years experience

Engineering Technician

Carlsbad, California (North San Diego Beach City – Tech Area “Silicon Beach”)

General Description:

  • Will co-develop with engineers processes for assembly, packaging and testing of Luxtera products

  • Perform electrical and optical tests on Luxtera die, sub-assemblies and products

  • Document developed processes

  • Train operators

  • Assist with improving, monitoring and performing manufacturing process

  • Maintain and operate automated assembly equipment

  • Able and willing to work off-hours, second shift on a short term as well as long term basis

Work experience requirements:

  • 4 years of experience in fiber optics and electronic packaging of optoelectronic devices (active and passive optical alignment, adhesive processes, package sealing, fiber termination, etc.)

  • Working knowledge of test equipment (DMM, O-Scope, power supplies, etc)

  • Familiar with micro-optics

  • Good understanding of common packaging processes such as soldering, wire bonding, adhesives

  • Good understanding of electronic principles

  • Basic understanding of fiber optics desired

  • Has developed test and/or assembly set-ups

  • Able to work independently and in a group

  • Familiar with statistical techniques and terms

Education Requirements

  • Technical Associates degree (AS)

  • Fluent in Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word, Power Point, project)

Sr. RF/Analog Mixed - Signal Layout and Verification

Carlsbad, California (North San Diego Beach City – Tech Area “Silicon Beach”)

General Description:

Primarily responsible for top-level integration and floor planning of next generation opto-electronics communication products.

  • Floor planning and integration of top-level, major sub-blocks, power grid, critical signals, block interfaces, pad ring and ESD structures, including area estimate and abstract generation in conjunction with circuit designer

  • Final tape-out verification and block level layout checks - Lead in Analog, RF and digital circuits physical design

  • Support design tool setup and platform - Manage the integration flow

Experience/Skills:

  • Strong demonstrated experience in top Level integration and floor planning in high-speed / RF serdes design environment and SOC

  • Full custom Analog and Mixed Signal IC Physical Design with good understanding of layout impact on circuit performance, especially in deep-submicron technologies

  • Cadence Virtuoso XL/Assura design environment

  • LVS, DRC, ERC, EMI, extraction and place & route flows and tools

  • Scripting within Cadence environment and tool automation experience is a plus

  • Working efficiently in Unix/Linux environment is a plus

  • Experience in SOI process is a plus

Work experience requirements:

  • 4+ years of top-level integration and tape-out experience in advanced CMOS with background in circuit design

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Focus, patience and attention to details is a must

  • Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable in a startup environment highly desired

Firmware Engineer

(North San Diego Beach City – Tech Area “Silicon Beach”)

We are seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to lead the Firmware, Software and Support Electronics efforts for our integrated high-performance photonic transceiver products.

General Description:

We are seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to lead the Firmware, Software and Support Electronics efforts for our integrated high-performance photonic transceiver products. You will be responsible for:

  • Development of firmware and software to support production modules, test stations and customer evaluation systems

  • Interfacing with other engineering teams to define requirements and develop specifications for production firmware and software

  • Development of software/firmware architectures for products

  • Implementation of robust systems of verification and validation for products, in order to meet our stringent quality and reliability requirements • Planning and scheduling project tasks and milestones in order to meet corporate product delivery goals

  • Leading a team to deliver the software, firmware and low-speed support electronics (i.e. voltage regulators and microcontroller interface boards) required by the organization

  • Coordination of on-going support and maintenance of existing firmware and software

Work experience requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of firmware/software engineering experience

  • Experience successfully leading projects and managing other engineers

  • Thorough understanding of modern Digital Design Concepts and Computer Architecture

  • Experience using C/C++ for embedded firmware, and Java/C# for desktop programming

  • A candidate for this position should demonstrate a proven ability to architect and implement production level firmware and software and feel comfortable working at the HW/SW interface

Additional Qualifications

  • The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience with embedded systems including: ARM7/8051 microcontrollers, RTOS (uc/OS-II), Flash File Systems, and embedded busses as I2C, TWI, SPI, JTAG, RS-232/485 etc

  • Understanding of Operating Systems concepts including thread/process multitasking, mutex/semaphores and critical sections, interrupts, exceptions, and scheduling algorithms

  • Understanding of algorithm design concepts, computational complexity, and compiler optimization techniques

  • Understanding of analog and interface circuits (op amps, comparators, ADCs, DACs, etc.) is desirable

  • Prior exposure to broadband data applications is an asset

  • Prior exposure to electro-optic components (i.e. lasers and photodetectors) is considered a plus

Electronics Reliability Technician - Electronic Testing

2nd Shift/Night Shift

General Description:

Luxtera is a Pre IPO, Private company with aggressive schedules to develop products to serve the datacom, high speed computing, and consumer electronics markets. Currently, the company is ramping up prototype build of our products, resulting in a need for additional capacity in test. We’re looking for a technician who is a team player, self starter, and productive. The technician will be part of a development team which consists of packaging, mechanical, test, electrical, optical, and reliability engineers. To be successful, the technician must be willing to work with all the team members, must be able to learn quickly the new technologies, and become familiar with the products, processes, and people in a short time.

Responsibilities:

The technician will report to reliability engineer in charge of qualifying new products. The technician’s primary responsibilities are running semi-automated functional/performance tests, performing reliability qualification, and burn-in testing of our products. The technician will also help build test systems, procure equipment, maintain test equipment, troubleshooting electronics circuits, write procedures, etc. In addition to the reliability activities, the technician is also expected to support the on-going product development and daily production activities such as performing characterization measurements on new devices, performing production related tests, and assembling components on modules.

This position is primarily a second shift position. The technician will work either night shift or very early morning shift with no more than two hours of overlap with the engineering day shift.

Experience Requirements: Experience with high frequency circuits: RF and/or high speed digital circuits. Proficiency with basic electronics: read schematics, understand basic circuits. Working knowledge of test equipment: oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, signal generators, etc. Able and willing to work off-hours, second shift on a long term basis. Ability to lift 45lbs

Desired Qualifications: Experience with high volume/high data rates products (over 1 Gbps) Familiarity with fiber optic products. Hands-on experience with high speed BERT, DCA

DFB Laser Development Engineer

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Light Source Development Roles

    • Key member of advanced development team working on light source development for CMOS photonic transceivers

    • Design and optimization of 1.3-1.5um DFB lasers to be used in CMOS photonic Transceivers

    • Perform modeling and other calculations in support of optimization of laser performance for application in CMOS photonics

    • Develop and perform broad array of laser measurements in support of light source program

    • Perform analysis of test data and process data in support of root cause analysis

    • Design & perform experiments to elucidate key aspects of the laser as they relate to performance and failure modes

    • Investigate/develop techniques for achieving high-yield, high throughput laser attach and alignment process

  • Engineering Support Roles

    • Write and maintain specifications for semiconductor lasers

    • Participate in RCA of failures related to laser and laser packaging

    • Work with vendors to identify and correct problems laser source materials

    • Recommend, devise and implement improvements to test systems and procedures

    • Devise and implement incoming test/sampling procedures for laser sources

    • Design and build new test systems for use characterization of diode lasers

    • Write test and data analysis software as required o Document test equipment and procedures as required

    • Write up new work instructions and testing procedures and train others on them

    • Ensure test process quality with the use of gage studies controls etc

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge III-V DFB lasers design techniques

  • Broad knowledge of techniques for the electro-optical characterization of photonic devices

  • Familiar with C#/.NET, Visual Basic and or C/C++ and object oriented programming

  • Demonstrated Knowledge of statistical process control

  • Experience with instrument control and automation

Credentials and Experience

Must have the following:

  • Minimum requirement: MS or PhD EE or equivalent

  • 5+ years of experience in design and characterization of semiconductor lasers and optical devices (may include graduate studies if applicable)

  • Hands on experience with the test of electronic or optoelectronic components for optical communications
