As Product regulatory compliance and safety director, you will be responsible for the strategy and supervision of a staff which oversees regulatory compliance standard, area management requirements and product safety for multiple Sony products sold in the Americas. You will be responsible for ensuring all Business Units are kept updated on changes to standards. Establish requirements for SEL and interface with business group management, engineering and factory personnel in SEL and Tokyo. You will also play a key role in lobbying on Sony's behalf for fair standards that align with Sony's vision and goals. These lobby efforts maybe jointly supported by legal, electronic competitors and the CEA.
You will develop staff as a team leader of the organization to meet their targets and objectives and to ensure SEL goals and objectives and aligned. You will develop the strategic plan and execution of actions for future regulatory compliance trend and requirement of local regulatory authority. Interface as needed with regulatory agencies to gain understanding on direction and trends in the industry that will or could affect Sony. Responsible to be a representative to the local regulatory authority such as UL/CSA,FCC/IC,DHHS/HC,EPA E-Star, CEC and others as a Sony compliance management. Where appropriate lead efforts with industry professionals to establish the appropriate standards that support SEL vision. Represent Sony as a good corporate citizen that advocates responsibility for product safety and environmental control. Ensure that team is tracking changes to regulatory and safety standards and lobbying appropriately for Sony. Where appropriate team should lobby for changes to current standards or proposed standards that oppose Sony direction/vision.
BS in Engineering plus a minimum of 12 years of related engineering experience to include a minimum of 2-5 years of management and regulatory compliance experience. MS/MBA is preferred.
Experience managing a safety group is a preferred.
In lieu of a degree, must have a minimum of 20 years of related engineering experience to include a minimum of 2-5 years of management experience.
A significant working knowledge of regulatory compliance such as UL/CSA,FCC/IC,DHHS/HC,EPA E-Star, CEC, etc.
Demonstrated strong leadership capability and development of staff.
Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies a plus.
Strong Project Management skills, meeting facilitation skills, with the ability to drive the organization to reach decisions are necessary.
Must be organized and process oriented with excellent communication and presentation skills.
Ability to work in a team environment and possess strong interpersonal skills.

As an Associate Engineer in the VAIO Division you will be responsible for deploying, modifying, and testing of factory tools that are used for creating, installing and manufacturing of VAIO platforms. This includes troubleshooting, investigation, and resolution of issues. In addition, you will be responsible for establishing programs and solutions for increasing uptime and for correcting problems that affect the manufacturing process. Coordinate directly with factory personnel for the implementation (roll-out) of software updates. Study equipment performance and reliability. Provide technical support to the manufacturing equipment repair and process engineering organizations.
BA/BS degree in Engineering. In lieu of degree, must have a minimum of 8 years of directly related senior engineering technician experience.
Strong interest in pursuing a design or development or manufacturing career path.
Ability and or experience in designing factory imaging processes is a plus.

Monitor regulatory information news/updates by monitor daily email notification and website of regulatory authorities and participating with industry committees. As an Engineering Project Manager in the VAIO Division, you will coordinate project activities and schedules amongst Engineering, Manufacturing, Product Planning, Marketing, Service, and Support personnel. This includes driving new software product introduction programs from project initiation through delivery, interfacing with internal stakeholders on all matters. In conjunction with the functional departments, creates the product requirements document (from marketing requirements) and schedule that will be used as a tool in making decisions on how and when the product or service will be implemented. Develops relationships with multiple managers (including development, product planning, marketing, and service managers) and provides them with technical, analytical, and process related information. Organizes cross functional activities ensuring completion of the program on schedule and within budget constraints. May manage multiple projects and may oversee others. Detail oriented, strong project management skills and strong organizational skills are a must.
Specific tasks can include product definition, project budget management, risk definition and risk management, scheduling, contract negotiations, management of external engineering partners, strategy participation, and review new technologies for possible applications.
The ideal candidate will Develop and monitor detailed program plans and schedules. Lead cross functional program team ensuring regular meeting with all affected team members, frequent and concise communication, documentation of program throughout development and resolution to program issues. As appropriate working with all of the team, update program schedules and work with senior management to balance resources. Manage a distributed software development programs. Manage risks to program (prepare detailed risk analysis and monitor contingency/mitigation plans). Meet or beat program deliverables for schedule and budget. Communicate program status to senior management and regularly (as appropriate) communicate with/to engineering management. Analyze impacts of potential new requirements on programs and work with engineering technical leads and operations to reduce software development time costs. Coordinate and manage products developed through Sony and its partners. Must be willing to travel within the US, Europe and Asia (approximately 10%)
BA/BS degree in Engineering plus a minimum of 9 years of related engineering experience to include a minimum of 2-5 years of management experience.
