Electromagnetic interference specialist in charge of investigating interference case on the Telkom radio network. Required to report illegal activities to the regulatory body (ICASA) and to provide recommendations to the people involved. This may involve changing antennas, frequencies or moving the radio site to another location. Investigations are done by doing a spectrum analysis at the radio site and checking for unwanted frequencies in our band (e.g. TDMA, DECT). Information is communicated to the spectrum management section to re-allocate frequencies. Involved in radio site sharing issues like compatibility between DECT and GSM 1800. In charge of Telkom’s only monitoring vehicle which is capable of doing direction finding on frequencies up to 3 GHz.  Also keeping track of new technologies like ADSL, UMTS, WiFi, WiMax, GPRS, 3G etc. Part of a technical team looking into business opportunities in Africa (DRC, Zambia, Nigeria). Frequency planning for point to point and point to multi point networks. Includes doing path profiles and coverage planning using the ICS Telecom and Multilinks software programs. In charge of the following frequency bands: 450, 1800, 1900, 2100 MHz and 2.4, 3.5, 6, 7, 23 and 38 GHz.

Assisted in EMC testing of equipment for Telkom tender products as well as field investigations. Undertook investigations into problems occurring in the field with respect to CPE. Wrote field investigation reports about the findings. Worked on the following systems Alcatel A9800, A9500, Lucent Swing, UMC 1000 Siemens and Ericsson DECT systems.
