Diectional Antennas - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts.

Hi
Im relatively inexpirienced with electronics and radio, however I'm currently undertaking a related project and would like to know if anyone tell me if a highly directional antenna exists that could receive at UHF 868 MHz that would be sturdy / small enough to be mounted on top of a car?
Many Thanks

Hay,
how much GAIN do you want? thare are small magnetic monopoles that can give you about 5dBi (if you put them an the middle of the car roof),
there are also small patch antennas that have a gain of 7dBi-10dBi which can be mounted on the car. you should look at the catalogs of KATHRIEN, CUSHCRAFT.
