VHF Antennas - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Below are the old forum threads, including responses to the original posts.

I am looking information on an antenna, I dont know if I am in the right place, i was wondering if someone could help me out. I am looking for an antenna to receive around 50 Mhz, It has to have high sensitivity and high receiver gain. Can you recommend the best types. It has to be as small as possible.

Hi,
This could be tricky! High gain antennas at VHF, and in your case 50 MHz, become very large indeed. Say, for example, you just wanted a gain of 10 dB, well at 50 MHz this would require an antenna with an effective area (Ae) of 28.65 m^2.

With more details of what you require I'm sure we could find a suitable alyernative.
