Hi People. I've always done electronics maintenance,
not design. But I'm wanting to do some experimentation
on some remote control low power circuits (train
layout for switching and lights). I don't want to
have to fool with the surface mount components because
they're too hard to work with without special equipment.
What is a good rule of thumb for the highest frequency
I can use without having to worry to much about
lead inductance for resistors, inductors, and capacitors.
Any other gotchas for leaded circuits?

Hello Tbone,
Up to a frequency of 1MHz you
should not expect any big problems.
However,
if you plan to use any switched mode power supplies
(Buck or Boost converters), I would recommend to
use SMD components because the layout has a crucial
effect on the performance of these circuits.
