Smith Chart Help - RF Cafe Forums

The original RF Cafe Forums were shut down in late 2012 due to maintenance issues - primarily having to spend time purging garbage posts from the board. At some point I might start the RF Cafe Forums again if the phpBB software gets better at filtering spam.

Hi,

I am self studying transmission lines and I have a question on smith chart. Consider the case when you're given reflection coefficient (tau_r), Z_not, and impedence (Z_r). You want to find reflection coefficient at any distance on transmission line, i.e., tau_d, and Z_d. I'm using
Tau(d) = (1 + Z_d)/(1 - Z_d) to find Z(d) but I don't get angle/phase correct this way. I don't understand where I am making a mistake and I would request some help on this.

Thanks,

A.M.
