Felix Baumgartner Sets Jump Height & Speed Record
|
On
Sunday, October 14, 2012, Austrian parachutist
Felix Baumgartner stepped out of
his balloon-borne pressurized capsule at a record-setting height of 128,000 feet and became
the first man to break the sound barrier during free fall (1.24
Mach). The previous record had been set way back in 1960 by Joe Kittinger, who handled
communications with Felix during his stunt. Felix missed breaking Joe's free fall duration record
by a mere 6 seconds. Red Bull sponsored the Stratos project.
