Kibble to Receive 2009 IEEE Joseph F. Keithley Award for Contributions to Fundamental Electrical Metrology
Cleveland, Ohio - April 13, 2009 - The IEEE has named Bryan Peter Kibble as the recipient of the 2009 IEEE Joseph
F. Keithley Award in Instrumentation and Measurement. Dr. Kibble, who worked at the Division of Electrical Science
at the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington, Middlesex, United Kingdom, prior to his retirement, is being
recognized for his work in pioneering experiments and techniques in the field of fundamental electrical metrology,
which led to the realization of the International System of Units (SI).
The award will be presented on May
6, 2009 at the IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC), which will be
held May 5-7, 2009 in Singapore at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre. The award,
sponsored by Keithley Instruments, Inc. (NYSE:KEI) in memory of the company's founder, is presented for
outstanding contributions in the field of electrical measurement. It consists of a bronze medal, a certificate,
and an honorarium.
Criteria considered by the award's IEEE Evaluation Committee include innovation or
development, social value, uniqueness of concept, other technical accomplishments, and the quality of the
nomination. The award is administered through the Technical Field Awards Council of the IEEE Awards Board and is
independent of Keithley Instruments.
