NuPower XtenderTM Bidirectional L- & S-Band PANEW PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT!

The NuPower XtenderTM Bidirectional L- & S-Band PA (model number NW-BSSPA-10W-1.0-2.5) is the first in the company’s new XtenderTM  series of bidirectional power amplifiers, which are based on the successful NuPower broadband, high-efficiency, miniature PA modules. Designed for use with half-duplex RF transceivers running constant-envelope waveforms, the new bidirectional PA provides a minimum of 10 Watts peak RF output power and 40 dB of gain with 30% average power efficiency from 1000 to 2500 MHz.

To support a variety of different data links, the unit features automatic transmit sensing circuitry providing nearly instantaneous switching between receive and transmit modes - on the order of 1 microsecond. The Xtender’s maximum noise figure of 3 dB helps improve receive performance of the entire communication system, while further improvements can be achieved with the addition of an optional low noise amplifier (LNA) in the receive path that provides at least 15 dB of small signal gain.

The NuPower XtenderTM  is housed in a compact and rugged nickel-plated aluminum chassis occupying only 6.9 cubic inches (3.00” x 2.00” x 1.15”). It weighs less than 6 ounces, making it ideal for integration into small platforms, such as Group 2 and Group 3 Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).

NUWAVES AWARDED TWO CONTRACTS FOR UNMANNED AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS DATA LINK RANGE EXTENSION SERVICES

NUWAVES AWARDED TWO CONTRACTS FOR UNMANNED AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS DATA LINK RANGE EXTENSION SERVICESUAS marketplaceNuWaves Engineering has been awarded two contracts in support of small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) programs related to communication data link range extension. The awards, both from U.S. Department of Defense prime contractors, include developmental work to customize NuWaves’ field-proven NuPowerTM miniature commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) power amplifier (PA) modules. NuWaves will also be providing RF consulting services related to maximizing range and throughput of its various data links to one of the customers.

“NuWaves continues to gain traction in the UAS marketplace by producing miniature, high-performance RF modules that meet UAS customers’ challenging size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C) requirements,” said Jeff Wells, President and CEO of NuWaves Engineering. “We’re thrilled to be working closely with UAS vendors, system integrators, and end users to help enhance the performance of wireless communication systems in support of the Warfighter.”

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
