It's a little out of season for posting this Belmont Radio advertisement, but it has been on my to-do list for a long time. Back in 1943 when this full-page promotion appeared in Life magazine, many companies unabashedly acknowledged America's traditions for celebrating Christmas by including a noel message in advertisements. Products from military bomber aircraft to washing machines, to cars, to canned hams were included in the lineup. It was two years into World War II when this December 27th issue came out, and the theme not surprisingly focused on our service members who were serving in the fields of Europe and northern Africa, and in the South Seas. Unlike most of the conflicts our men are involved in these days, the freedom of the entire western world depended on defeating the Axis powers that were Hitler's Germany, Hirohito's Japan, and Mussolini's Italy. Merry Christmas [Belated] to all, and to all a good night.

Belmont Radio, December 27, 1943 Life - RF CafeThere will always be a Christmas

Since time beyond memory, Christmas has been a day of glad reunion with family and friends. But this Christmas, many familiar faces are missing around America's firesides.

Even at this moment, across the seas and all over the world, millions of young Americans are standing to their arms ... not only in defense of human freedom but to preserve the right to follow the faith for which Christmas stands.

Though far apart this Christmas, these men and their families are close together in thought. And here at Belmont, we are made happier by the knowledge that they are brought closer still by the magic voice of radio. Across the thousands of miles between, they hear the same Christmas music, the same familiar American voices ... the same words of encouragement.

In a world grown so small through swift communication, there is reason to hope that better understanding will, one day, bring lasting peace among men. Belmont Radio Corporation, 5921 West Dickens Avenue, Chicago 39, Illinois.

Belmont engineering skill and fine craftsmanship are now helping to strengthen American arms on land, on sea and in the air. With victory, Belmont products will be back again - better than ever!
