Electronics-Themed Comics

Wax nostalgic about and learn from the history of early electronics. See articles from Radio-Electronics, published 1930-1988. All copyrights hereby acknowledged.

More than likely the theme of "intermittents" appearing in two out of three comics in the July 1955 issue of Radio−Electronics magazine is purely coincidental. Given that it was an era when most electronic products were still built with point-to-point wiring and lots of plug-in components (vacuum tubes, connectors to front panel controls and between subassemblies, etc.), intermittent connections were the bane of most servicemen's existence since they were (and still are) the most difficult kinds of problems to isolate. If you look through the hundreds of electronics and technology themed comics I have posted from these vintage magazines, you will see what I mean. The third comic expresses one of the many frustrations associated with unskilled owners attempting repairs to their electronic appliances, and finally calling in an expert when all else fails - often expecting free advice or service. Being a life-long reader of comic books and newspaper comic strips, I enjoy postings (and sometimes colorizing) these instances.
